Now, it doesn't take a wizard to identify the problem here. You could play as lots of different characters with unique weapons and attributes attached, and there was even a mechanic where you could be bitten by a zombie and you'd then only have a limited amount of time to finish the scenario before the T-Virus took over. The whole package was essentially loads of various, miniature Resident Evil games packed into one, each taking roughly three to four hours to complete. A reboot makes far too much sense on PlayStation 5.įor those who don't know, these PlayStation 2 titles were online-focused co-op experiences that contained a number of different scenarios across different locations, containing classic Resident Evil puzzles and enemies.

When you look back on them, Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 really were ahead of their time. Not the greatest line-up of spin-offs, then, but to suggest they're all bad would be doing one select sub-series a severe disservice.

The very forgettable Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil Resistance are proof of that. The series actually went first-person way before Resident Evil 7: Biohazard with the PlayStation 1's Resident Evil Survivor, and questionable multiplayer offerings have never been far away. It is quite clear that Japanese developer Capcom loves to experiment with its biggest franchises from time to time, and Resident Evil has to be one of the best examples of that.
